Nigeria is one of the countries in the Africa region and people born here are allowed to participate in the DV lottery. Those who want to participate in this USA green card lottery visa program must have the required education or work experience as per the DV lottery instructions.
Winning a DV Lottery doesn't guarantee that you will be issued with an American Immigrant visa, it will only give you a chance to apply for the American immigrant visa by paying the non refundable visa fees. As a winner at the interview you must proof your eligibility to the consular officer to get the visa.
Normally Nigerian people must have successfully finished 12 years of education including primary and secondary education equivalent to USA high school certificate.
Or the applicants must have 2 years of work experience within the last 5 years in a job after 2 years of education/training to perform that job. You can check the DOL Onet web site for the job category.
A person can apply only one entry (whether he applies or agent or someone else applies), if more than one entry is submitted with a person's name as primary applicant, all entries will be rejected without notice.
Married person must include spouse and all the unmarried children who are under the age of 21, failure to do so will disqualify from the program.
Winners will need a sponsor's support from a US citizen or US LPR holder.
Winners who are already living in the USA legally can contact the USCIS to change their current status to LPR status, if they can do it before 30th September.
The Lottery is free to enter, although the winner must pay the non-refundable visa fees and the diversity processing fee at the time of the interview to the US Embassy only.
Winners will be notified by postal mail only, between the months of May and July.
No visas will be issued after 30th September for the fiscal year program.
Be warned if you get any notification by Emil, phone or by fax, double check them. And don't send any money by bank draft or any money transfer service.
For the DV Lottery 2008 nearly 8,773 Nigerians were notified as winners.
Nigerian Winners name list will not be available anywhere.
The US Embassy or the Consulates also can't provide the names of the winners.
DV 2011 winners who are selected by the computer random draw will be notified by may till July this year.
Issuing of the visas will start in October 2010 and will end in 30th September 2010.
DV lottery Visas were issued to Nigeria in the past as
1995 2,408
1996 4,359

2002 2,279
2003 3,119
2004 2,959
2005 2,379

If you are a DV Lottery winner make all your certificates ready and wait for the interview. Rescheduling the interview date will reduce the chance of getting a visa as fewer visas available and more winners are there.
If you don't know how to fill the forms get assistance from true consultants or lawyers and don't forget to fill their names and address as who has assisted you in the filling of the form.
DV 2009 program was officially closed on 30th September 2009 and no one can benefit from the winning after this date.
USA Visa Lottery. Education Requirements for the Nigeria based Applicants.
USA visa lottery requires Nigerian people to have the following educational requirements. Many of the bogus agents can tell you that you may qualify under the work experience. it is very rare to qualify from the Nigeria for the Green card lottery under the work experience. We suggest you don't apply for the DV Lottery if you don't have the educational qualification.
Your Educational Qualification according to the US Embassy in the Nigeria as follows.
To qualify for the DV program, you must have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma. In Nigeria, this means you must have 5 scores of “6” or higher in 5 different subjects on the WAEC, SSCE, NECO, or NABTEB certified exams. You may also qualify with a BSC degree, HND, or OND from an accredited university or polytechnic institution.
Do all subjects on WAEC or NECO count for the purposes of the DV?
No. To qualify, the subjects must be academic subjects such as English, biology, or math. Trade subjects, for example plumbing or garment making, do not count for the program.
Can I combine scores from different exams?
You can. Any combination of exams from different years can be combined. For example, you can use 3 passing scores from a WAEC exam from 2002 and 2 passing scores from a NECO exam in 2003 that will qualify for the program. However, each of the 5 passing scores MUST be in different subjects.
What else should I bring to the interview to demonstrate my educational qualifications?
At the time of interview, you should bring the official exam certificate or a computer printout with an unused scratch card. If you have a higher educational qualification, such as a
National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, or a University degree, you should bring the appropriate certificate. And transcripts, though not required, are very helpful. National youth service completion certificates also - not required, but helpful if you have them.
Please Do NOT bring fake certificates (even if they happen to show your real scores!)—you will be disqualified.
Please also Do NOT bring scores from exams for which you did not sit yourself—you will be disqualified.
